Summit Racing Series ET Finals

September 23, 2012

NUMIDIA GOES BACK TO BACK FOR TEAM TITLE

WEST LEBANON, N.Y. – The team from Numidia Raceway took home the coveted NHRA Summit Racing Series Team Championship for the second year in a row, with a 3-point win over Old Bridge Township Raceway Park at the NHRA Northeast Division Summit Racing Series Finals at Lebanon Valley Dragway.

Fourteen teams, from states across the northeast and Canada, came to battle as Numidia gathered up 63 points to top Raceway Park in second with 60. Mason Dixon Dragway was third with 58 and host track Lebanon Valley was fourth with 51.

Vinny DiMino led the team from Numidia with a win in the Pro class over Craig Sonderfan. The Hawley, Pa., racer got the early lead and held on for the win with a lap time of 9.397 seconds at 142.98 to Sonderfan’s 9.805, at 138.80. DiMino is no stranger to the Summit Series winner’s circle as he took the win in Super Pro two years ago.

In Super Pro this year it was fellow Pennsylvania racer Rob Leipziger with a holeshot win over Art Paltz, Edison, N.J. Leipziger was .022 on the tree, taking the win in 7.638 seconds at 167.46 mph. Leipziger posted a .007 reaction time in his semifinal and had a .014 in the quarterfinals on his way to the final. Paltz was 7.909 seconds on his 7.90 dial but could not make up the starting line advantage of Leipziger.

Ken George and Ed Talbert also took home trophies this weekend as George won in Bike and Talbert beat Brian Mullaney in Street. Landing, N.J., racer George, won on his ’97 GSXR when David Thoman left early with a red light foul start. George road it out to an 8.571 second pass at 149.04 mph. Talbert, Woodbine, Md., won on a double breakout, using a .037 starting line advantage to force Mullaney to run too fast.

The four will advance to the NHRA Summit Racing Series National Championship at the Automobile Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif., in November where they will racer for a purse of more than $100,000.

The final trophy of the weekend went to Austin Argoe in the High School class in his ’06 Silverado. Argoe, Middletown, Del., defeated Steve Knight, Fall River, Mass., with a 17.492, 70.24 mph to Knight’s 17.877 at 77.82 mph.
