Division 1 Super Gas racer Giardono passes away

Division 1 Super Gas racer Thomas "Tommy" Giardino died Oct. 11 as the result of injuries sustained in a racing accident Oct. 2 at the Division 1 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Atco Raceway. He was 54.

Giardino, of Colts Neck, N.J., was the owner of the Mr. Bargain II Auto Parts store in Staten Island, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife, Karen A. Giardino (nee Zack); two sons, Gregory T. and Jameson D. Giardino; a daughter, Sharon R. Giardino. He is also survived by a brother, Joseph G. Giardino.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 from the Bongarzone Funeral Home, 2400 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls, N.J. A funeral mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15 at Holy Innocents Church in Neptune.
